We are pleased to offer the following plants grown by Environmentals for our Fall Plant Sale. The deadline for ordering is September 4th and pick-up will be Saturday, Sept. 11, 10 am to 1 pm.
Acanthopanax – All Green. Also known as aralia pentaphylla – slender, arching stems, very hardy, few thorns, deciduous, to 6 x 8 ft.
Acanthus – Bear’s breeches. 1-2 ft. sturdy spikes of white or mauve-tinted flowers. Good border plant.
Acer palmatum ‘Shaina’. Dwarf, deciduous Japanese maple with bright, scarlet new growth turning to dark red. 3 ft. round head in 10-12 years.
Acer palmatum dissectum ‘Green Filigree’ – Pendulous, cascading form of Japanese maple. Slow-growing; bright green in spring, light green in summer, gold in fall. 3 ft. wide head in 15 years.
Acer palmatum ‘Villa Taranto’ –
This Japanese maple has light feathery texture, narrow strap-like leaves; cream, red orange flush; good fall color. To 6 ft. in 12-15 years.
Acer palmatum ‘Hogyoku’ – old Japanese maple cultivar. Not flashy except in autumn, when it is a bright, pumpkin orange. Pale bark; sun and wind tolerant. 11-15 ft.
Buxus microphylla ‘Compacta’. Little leaf boxwood that grows less than 1/2 inch per year.
Buxus sempervirens ‘Graham Blandy’ – fastigiate, columnar variety of common boxwood grows to 6ft in 12 years. Good in pairs at an entranceway.
Buxus sempervirens ‘Suffruticosa’ – the standard edging boxwood for centuries. It can be maintained at several inches or grown out to several feet.
Callicarpa americana leucocarpa (or lactea). The American Beautyberry in the white berry form. 4- 6 ft. shrubs are good for naturalizing or massing.
Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Nana Gracilis’ – most popular form of dwarf Hinoki cypress. Rich, green foliage, globose, becoming pyramidal with age. 3’ x 2’ in 10-12 years.
Chamaecyparis obtusa ‘Verdon’ – dwarf-miniature Hinoki with deep golden foliage and excellent winter color. Grows only 2-4 " per year. Good rock garden plant.
Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Tama – himuro’ - This outstanding specimen has a perfect globe form that never needs shearing. Sparkling blue foliage turns plum in winter. 2’ x 2’.
Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘White Pygmy’ – a miniature with flat-topped rounded bun, green interior color and bright, sparkling white – tipped new growth. At 15 years, only 12" wide. Good rock garden plant.
Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ – Smokebush with rich maroon-red leaves darkening to almost purple-black. Flowers in June/July are bright red. Grows 8-10 feet.
Cryptomeria japonica ‘Tenzan’ – Rare garden miniature; very tight, congested bun with orange and green foliage. Grows less than 1/2" per year.
Daphne burkwoodii ‘Carol Mackie’ – semi-evergreen variegated cream-edged foliage on this old favorite. Fragrant white flowers. Grows 4 ft. high with spread of 5-6 ft.
Enkianthus campanulatus ‘Variegated’ –
clusters of creamy urn-shaped flowers with red veins in early May. Rigid, upright habit. Grows to about 6 ft in 12 years.
Euonymus fortunei ‘Kewensis’ – little dark green leaf creeping, fine-textured ground cover.
Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea Pendula’ – weeping purple beech, striking specimen plant with no central leader and very slow growth. Maximum size 10 feet.
Fothergilla gardenii ‘Blue Mist’ – Grows to 3 ft. in full to part shade. Great blue leaves, yellow color in fall and all shades in between.
Ilex ‘Jersey Sprite’ – Pygmy hybrid that is low and spreading 10-12 " in 12 years. Female red fruit and glossy foliage, red tipped new growth.
Ilex crenata ‘Green Dragon’ – Vigorous growth on this brother to ‘Dwarf Pagoda’, heavy foliage, full sun, excellent rock garden plant. Grows 2" per year.
Juniperus chinensis ‘Gold –n-Low’ – Feathery yellow-gold foliage blue-green beneath. Broad and low-growing 6’ x 3’, fans out horizontally.
Juniperus communis ‘Gold Cone’ – Dense, upright columnar, blue-green in winter, 4 ft. high in 10 years. No pruning. Full sun.
Juniperus communis ‘Green Carpet’ – Neat little grower, low and flat dense ground cover. Use in rock garden.
Thuya occidentalis ‘Ellwangeriana Aurea’ – Lends texture to landscape – orange in sun, chartreuse in shade. An option for planters poolside for an outstanding contrast.
Thuya occidentalis ‘Tiny Tim’ – Miniature arborvitae with dense globose form, 12 – 16in 8-10 years. Full sun to light shade.
Sciodopitys verticillata – Japanese umbrella Pine. Exceptionally elegant evergreen tree. Thick, whorled, glossy, deep green needles. Slow grower to 15 ft. in 20 years. Upright conical for sun or light shade.
Rhododendron yakusimanum – Queen of the Rhododendrons, heavy indumentums, large pink buds open to rose fading to white. 1 – 2 ft. in 8 years. Light shade to 1/2 day sun.
Rhododendron x ‘PJM’ – compact form. Lavender pink flowers in early April. 4’ x 4’ in 10 years. Part shade best.
Pieris japonica ‘Mt. Fire’ – Dramatic red new growth in spring and white flowers on this andromeda. Compact, broad mounding, 5’ x 7’ in 8 years. Best in light to full shade, but tolerates sun.
Pieris japonica ‘Brouwer’s Beauty’ - Broad, compact form with purplish-red buds, white flowers and light green new growth. Fall foliage is bronze-red. 3’ x 3’ in 10 years. Full sun to light shade.
Osmanthus heterophyllus ‘Goshiki’ – Holly-like foliage with showy new growth, red to orange to gold. 4’ x 5’ wide in 10 years. Full sun, part shade.
Lespedeza thunbergii ‘Avalanche’ Late blooming shrub, arched with masses of white pea-like flowers in Sept. – Oct. Full sun to light shade.
Lagerstroemia ‘Chickasaw’ – Miniature Crepe Myrtle, compact, rounded dwarf. Late blooming lavender pink flowers, dark green foliage, maroon new growth, bronze-red in fall. Full sun. 2’ X 3’ in 7 years.
